The Muella

Oh how sad life must be for the non-Muella. To never truly know the feelings of another person. To be limited to the imprecise nature of words alone.
Take pity on and be understanding of the non-Muella, for their worldview will always be smaller due to this failing of their physiology.

—The Muella Philosopher Sao-Tai

The Muella are mushroom people. They are very social and can be found all across Thyslann. Their highly variable nature makes it so they can adapt to wide number of climates and ecosystems, letting them thrive just about anywhere.

When creating your Muella character, you can take inspiration from almost any mushroom you like, even fantastical ones if you want. Feel free to be as creative as you desire.

The Muella come in many different shapes, sizes, and colours. What unites them all in appearance is they have a cap as part of their heads. They also have a numerous number of different sexes; to the point that caring about one's sex simply is not important to the Muella and rarely correlates to any sense of gender for different individuals.

The Muella have a unique ability to commune with mycelial networks below them. This is not a very exact form of communication and is much more vague in nature, but does provide them a type of danger sense as they can heed the warnings sent through these networks. Over the years this ability has helped Muella thrive, as they can sense danger and avoid it, as long as there is a mycelial network beneath them.

They are also able to extend this mechanism to communicate their emotions to other Muella through physical touch. This is not their primary way of communicating, however, since Muella tend to live in multi-species communities. Muella who are close to one another, however, often touch each other to casually communicate their feelings. (Please remember that you must ask permission OC before touching someone in session. For more information see here.)

Since the Muella are highly social, they tend to raise their children communally in groups known as Muella circles, which include multiple sets of romantic and platonic partners raising their children together as friends. This allows children to have multiple adults to look up to and learn from, and gives the adults better opportunity to take a break from parenting and divide the workload of child rearing. It also means most Muella are used to raising children who are not biologically related to them and often adopt children of other species who are in need of parents.

Because of their emotion sense, the Muella display a high tendency towards physical touch with people they care about, even towards non-Muella. (Please remember that you must ask permission OC before touching someone in session. For more information see here.)
