Labyrinth has started running already.

If you are interested in playing please email the GM Team and we can let you know if we have capacity for you to either play or crew for the game.

The game will consist of 10 sessions, plus an initial character creation session and an end-of-game debrief. These will take place fortnightly on Wednesday evenings.

Please note that we will be taking a short break after session 5, which will change the pattern of the weeks slightly.

The venue will be open to us from 7pm, with sessions starting at 7:30pm and finishing at 10:30pm. Sessions will all be hosted in the Asian Cultural Centre (Manzil Way, Oxford, OX4 1GH), in the large upstairs hall.

The character creation session serves as a chance for you to ask GMs any questions you may have about the game and discuss your ideas for characters with GMs and other potential players. This event is completely free to attend so you can decide if Labyrinth is the right game for you. We will also be hosting a Costume Swap event at Character Creation – bring any costume parts or craft material you no longer want, and swap them with other people to make the costume you want for Labyrinth.

Debrief will be an opportunity for players and GMs to reveal their secrets once the game is finished in an organized fashion. We highly recommend bringing crafts or something to do with your hands while you listen to everyone talk.

The Asian Cultural Centre is located just off Cowley Road and is easily accessible with most methods of transport. Please note that the Asian Cultural Centre is well signposted, and is located a little further down the road than the mosque (Google maps confusingly shows a picture of the mosque when you search for the venue).

Public Transport

The nearest bus stop is Manzil Way, a short 5 minute walk from the venue. Regular busses are available from here to/from the centre of town, and out towards Temple Cowley. There is also a nearby bus stop on Morrell Avenue.

Cars

There is car parking at the venue, however you will need to move your car if you are going to the post-session social. There is also plenty of on-street parking available from 6:30pm, on Manzil Way and in many of the nearby streets.

If you get there earlier, the Union Street Car Park is a paid car park not too far away.

The hall is located on the second floor of the Cultural Centre. There is lift access, but the lift is small – wheelchairs should be able to fit it, but power chairs may struggle.

There are gendered toilets, and an accessible toilet on the ground floor.

The space we have available is a single large hall. Due to the space, it may be loud and echoing during sessions. We do not have any other rooms in the venue booked, however there is corridor space and 2 staircases that are used to access the venue, if you need to take a break. We are also able to use the grounds outside (though noise should be kept to a minimum).

If you have any concerns regarding accessibility, please contact the GM team.

Post-Session Social

For those of you who want to socialise after the session, there will be an informal gathering at Sundaes, around a 5 minute walk from the venue. This is an informal, alcohol-free social. This can be a great chance to get to know your fellow roleplayers, especially if you don't know many other OLS members!

There is no online ticketing system for Labyrinth. You simply need to create a character and then can pay for sessions (if in person) or to play (if remote) once your character has been confirmed.

All adults (over the age of 18) who wish to play Labyrinth are welcome. There is no obligation to play every session, and the game is designed so that we can give you an IC reason for missing session as long as you provide the GMs with advanced notice of you missing. Additionally, if you are a primarily remote player and happen to be in Oxford when a session is occurring, you will also be welcome to join us for uptime. Again, it would be helpful for you to notify the GMs in advance of the session if this is occurring.

Due to GM workload capacity, we will be instituting a player cap of 30 players. If we receive more than 30 character submissions, places will be allocated by ballot with priority for in-person players.

The price will be £7 per session, or £30 for each 5-session half of the game. (So £30 for sessions 1-5 paid for at session 1 and £30 for sessions 6-10 paid for at session 6.) You can pay for one half and not the other if you are not planning to attend every session of one of the halves. Sessions in the half you did not do the bulk payment for, will be paid for on a session by session basis.

There will be no charge for character creation or debrief. Payment can be made in session by cash or card. Alternatively, payment can be made by bank transfer or online. More details on payment, as well as bank transfer details and the online payment method, can be found here. These funds go towards the cost of hiring the venue, web-hosting, and emails; if you have any questions, please contact the treasurer or committee of The Oxford LARP Society.

The price will be £10 to play the game. Payment can be made by bank transfer or online here. This fee helps us cover the cost of web hosting and emails; if you have any questions, please contact the treasurer or committee of The Oxford LARP Society.

We recognise that for some people, the cost of sessions would prevent them attending. As such, concessionary pricing is available to anyone who would not otherwise be able to attend.

Automatic concessions are available as below – though even if you do not fall within these criteria and would find the cost prohibitive, please email us and we may be able to offer a reduced price.

  • 50% concession (£3.50 per session) (£5 total for remote players)
    • Anyone with a disability
    • Anyone working fewer than 30 hours per week
  • 100% concession (free attendance)
    • Anyone meeting both the criteria above
    • Anyone attending as a carer for another attendee
    • Anyone unemployed, or employed for fewer than 10 hours per week

Additionally, voting members of the Oxford Roleplaying Society are entitled to free attendance due to that society's affiliation with OLS.
