Species Overview

The market street of Anneia was far busier than it had been on my arrival. Ssar of all colours and shapes bustled in the streets, Muella vendors fed the hungry, several clans of Gentens had set up camp nearby, going about their business without care for the crowds, and a troop of Dragonblooded marines from the Southern Empire marched forcefully from the port to their camp. I met several kinds of Wildborn I had not seen before, including an Elk Wildborn, whose horns were truly magnificent. The strangest sight of all to report was yellow and amorphous, looking like some liquid suspended in a person-shapped bubble, two swirling stones where someone's eyes would be. I have never seen anything quite like them, but if they were from the Labyrinth, then perhaps it was really worth venturing into.

— Diary notes by Ambassador Jan Petroch, member of the Northern Empire delegation to Kythara

Across the world of Labyrinth, there are six sapient species. With the exception of Slimefolk, each species can be found across the entire world, in many different societal positions. This is an overview of the different traits and perspectives that each species has to help you choose one to play. Links are provided for more detailed descriptions.

Dragonblooded are fierce combatants with fiercer appetites, historically higher up in the social hierarchy. Their humanoid bodies are covered in scales, and they are capable of spitting flaming ichor.

Gentens' minds are custom-built, with all their wants, desires, and ambitions chosen by their parents. They are tougher than other species, with a hard shell and many eyes.

Muella are mushroom people. They vary in appearance, but all have a mushroom cap head. They have the ability to sense danger through mycelial networks and sense the feeling of other Muella through touch. The Muella also raise their children communially.

Slimefolk are the youngest sapient species, found only in the Labyrinth. Made, not born, they are amorphous people consisting of goo, sometimes as a fusion of multiple individuals.

The lizard-like Ssar are a numerous, social species, cold-blooded but with a highly efficient metabolism. Though there are multiple distinctive 'morphs', all Ssar are covered in coloured scales, with tails and snouts of various length.

Wildborn appear at random among animal species, often adopted by other Wildborn into society. Through training they can shapeshift, changing between their natural, animal form, and a humanoid form that blends a bipedal appearance with animal characteristics. Without a birth family, Wildborn are reliant on the people who found them and the society they are brought into in order to thrive.
