Archetypes

The world of Labyrinth is vast, with many options to choose from. If you feel overwhelmed by the options available, don't panic! This page is here to help you focus and select the aspects of the game that interest you the most, based on the character archetype you want to play.

Every character in Labyrinth needs to have the following:

  • A state: A place of origin or residence for your character, with rivalries and affiliations to other regions.
  • A species: A lineage and set of inherent traits for your character.
  • A Social Status: A position in society, with both the power and responsibility that that position brings. This is denoted with a numerical rank from 1 to 5 for player characters at the start of the game.
  • At least two Skills: Things that your character is good at, indicative of their profession or training.
  • Optionally Paths of Magic: Abilities that allow you do things beyond the mundane, creating fantastical effects that enable you to creatively solve problems.

Listed below are a selection of character concepts, along with options for you to realise these concepts. This is not a comprehensive list of all the ways to play a character in Labyrinth, nor are the options listed the only methods to achieve the character you want. This is a starting point to help guide you through the wiki, and to offer you suggestions for your character concept.

  • Take the Frontlining Skill to get up-close and personal, or take the Support skill to provide a protective backline.
  • Come from the Northern Empire, known for its martial knights or the 13th Legion, known for its fearsome soldiers.
  • Play a Dragonblooded to have a combat ready physiology.
  • Choose a Status Rank between 2 and 4, depending on how renowned you are as a combatant or an indication of your military rank.
  • Take the Path of the Sun or the Path of the River for offensive potential, and the Path of the Earth or the Path of the Mountain for defensive potential.
  • Take the Diplomacy Skill to negotiate and forge agreements. Take the Scholarship Skill to be a well-learned expert of culture, or take the Planning Skill to develop complex machinations.
  • Come from The Northern or Southern Empires, hotbeds for intrigue and politics.
  • Play a Dragonblooded if you want to have ancient aristocratic lineage, or play a Wildborn if you want to have little family legacy to pull on.
  • Choose a Status Rank of 4 or 5 for political influence, but a responsibility to the people you govern.
  • Take the Path of the River to enhance your awareness, picking up on body language shifts that others miss.
  • Take the Crafting Skill if you intend to make your own wares, and take the Diplomacy Skill if you plan to get a good deal off them.
  • Come from Dolom or the Allied Guilds, wealthy hubs of craft and trade prosperity.
  • Play a Genten obsessed with their craft or a Muella helping their community prosper.
  • Choose a Status Rank of 2 or 3, depending on how well known you are for what you sell.
  • Take the Path of the Hammer to have the best tools always to hand.
  • Take the Roguery Skill to evade the watchful eyes of the law. Take the Pathfinding Skill to survive and thrive outside the system or take the Frontlining Skill to take what you need by force and protect yourself from capture.
  • Come from the Ezu Plateau, rejecting the restrictions of the caste system.
  • Play a Wildborn, with no lineage or family to provide for you.
  • Choose a Status Rank of 1, as someone with no positive renown in any community.
  • Take the Path of the Hammer, giving you the tools you need to survive on the streets.
  • Take the Pathfinding Skill to navigate treacherous terrain, and take the Scholarship Skill to analyse and understand any strange occurrences you might find.
  • Come from the Land of Endless Sky, famed for its scholars and geographers.
  • Play a Ssar for an efficient metabolism, able to adapt to your environment, or play a Slimefolk who is able to squeeze through tight spaces and access areas others can't.
  • Choose a Status Rank of 3, as a respected scholar, but one not particularly well-known outside their home.
  • Take the Path of the River or the Path of the Mountain for improved speed or endurance while traversing the wilds.
  • Take the Roguery Skill to strike your target from the shadows. Take the Planning Skill to organise the perfect crime, or take the Crafting Skill to improvise the perfect trap mechanism.
  • Come from the Northern or Southern Empires, lands with big hierarchies that people may want assassinated.
  • Play a Slimefolk or a small Wildborn to be able to slip away, unseen.
  • Choose a visible Status Rank of 1, to fall below the net of suspicion.
  • Take the Path of the Crucible: release a poison to take out your target, and put down a smokescreen to slip away undetected.
  • Take the Support Skill to tend to the wounds of others, and take the Pathfinding Skill to live off the land.
  • Come from the Land of Endless Sky or the Collective for a greater connection with nature.
  • Play a Muella to have an innate connection with the land beneath you.
  • Choose a Status Rank around 2, as a respected member of a local community.
  • Take the Path of the Moon for mastery of nature magic: controlling the weather and plants.
  • Take the Planning Skill to organise complex logistics. Take the Support Skill to be a general skilled at marshalling troops on the battlefield, or take the Diplomacy Skill to weave your way through bureaucratic systems and red tape.
  • Come from the Southern Empire or the Land of Endless Sky, known for managing complex logistics in war and peacetime.
  • Play a Ssar who has risen through the ranks, or a Genten who has been perfectly honed for winning wars.
  • Choose a Status Rank between 3 and 5 to represent different levels of seniority in a command structure.
  • Take the Path of Earth or Path of the Heavens to shape the battlefield to your advantage, constructing earthworks for defence or diverting a river to flood your enemies.
